GHANA
The Perspectives on the World Christian Movement® course returned to Ghana in 2024, relaunched by a national coordinating team committed to mobilizing the Ghanaian church for God’s global mission. Ghana sits within the wider West African Perspectives story: as Perspectives Nigeria notes on its page, the Nigerian national programme has come alongside Ghanaian leaders to help establish the work locally and that partnership now runs through every Perspectives Ghana class.
Since the relaunch, four Perspectives courses have been completed in country, with students drawn from churches, theological schools, and mission agencies. Each class works through the full 15-lesson curriculum across the four perspectives of God’s mission — Biblical, Historical, Cultural, and Strategic — exploring why Jesus is worthy among every people group, and how Ghanaian believers can join Him in that work.
Perspectives Ghana is run by an entirely volunteer coordinating team. Resources are still limited and the program is still emerging, but the demand from Ghanaian pastors, mission leaders, and theological students continues to grow with each cohort.
"I've had some knowledge on missions, but when I attended the Perspectives course, it changed my Perspective on missions significantly. The materials in the textbook are so rich in depth and coverage that I felt blessed to have been introduced to such a collection of quality articles on missions. I learnt entirely new things in mission and the illustrations and narratives by the authors are novel. One aspect that got to me was the article by Steven C. Hawthorne on The Wall And The Canyon. It brought to light a phenomenon currently happening in the cities and which our Mission Organisation have been grappling with. With the information acquired, I gave a 15- minute talk on evangelism and missions at a theological school I am attending, using the article as my anchor script. The audience were enthused and it was no wonder when one of them, a senior pastor of a church approached me to help his church reach out to a community of people from the northern part of Ghana living in clusters of kiosks near their church and yet very difficult to reach with the gospel. I explained why that situation persisted using information acquired from the Perspectives course, and gave him salient points to ponder and implement. He left my house a very happy person. He was amazed at the little information he received from me. I encouraged him to get his church involved in the course to which he agreed.
I would recommend every church, with a view to reaching the whole world with the whole gospel, to get engaged in this course. It would change the perspective of the leadership and equip them to identify and break down the various barriers (language, culture, worldviews etc) and be able to carry out the Great Commission in a much more effective manner. It is a unique course that touches the very heart of missions and dissects the prevailing issues succinctly."
